It was build to host the first modern library of Spain. The building was originally called "Palace of the Book" and was designed by the architect Joseph Yarnoz Larrosa. The three facades of the building, artificial stone "berroquena", barique style, were the work of sculptor Antonio Huertas. Today it is still open on the ground floor the library "La Casa del Libro".
